Advancing sustainable finance and environmental markets in Africa.
Casablanca Finance City is strengthening its role as a hub for sustainable finance and environmental markets in Africa, supporting the development of a green ecosystem that contributes to the continent’s energy transition and the shift towards a low-carbon economy. Through its community of financial institutions, investment funds, advisory firms and environmental market players, CFC brings together key stakeholders working to accelerate the development of green finance, renewable energy and environmental assets.
As part of its commitment to advancing sustainable finance, CFC has supported the launch of the Green Assets Cluster, a key initiative dedicated to developing Morocco’s environmental asset markets. The Cluster brings together companies, renewable energy producers, financial institutions, and international partners to address the challenges and opportunities arising from the climate transition. Through initiatives such as the Green Assets Cluster and its broader sustainable finance ecosystem, CFC contributes to fostering transparent, credible and internationally aligned market mechanisms that can support Morocco’s energy transition while unlocking new opportunities for African markets.

The Cluster brings together companies, renewable energy producers, financial institutions, and international partners to address the challenges and opportunities arising from the climate transition.
In July 2026, the Green Assets Cluster officially launched its activities and reached a significant milestone by being appointed Local Issuer of the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) Standard in Morocco.
The I-REC standard provides an internationally recognised standard to certify that electricity has been generated from renewable sources. These certificates are increasingly used by companies to support their ESG commitments, decarbonisation strategies and international competitiveness.
With its designation as Local Issuer, the Green Assets Cluster provides Moroccan renewable energy producers with a local point of contact for the I-REC process. It supports producers in registering their facilities, verifying the required information and production data, and issuing certificates through the international registry.
This local service simplifies access to an internationally recognised certification mechanism and contributes to enhancing the visibility and value of renewable electricity produced in Morocco.
